Our First Beautiful Humans Film

In launching our movement’s first Beautiful Humans film, we needed to showcase our storytelling prowess while also setting the stage for the movement. While we selected Joe as our feature because of how he values others, we had no idea he would go on to espouse the movement’s core values.

The goal here was to deliver our first monthly film. We wanted people to be introduced to the movement’s core vehicle (film) and to get viewers engaged.

We hosted a screening party when launching Beautiful Humans where we viewed the initial movement invitation film along with Beauty Within. While we believed it was powerful, we weren’t expecting the feedback to be so robust. Several viewers were in tears. People shared that this film helped them accept difficult things in their lives and take steps forward. The heart of the movement is about helping people connect with our shared humanity, and this film delivered.

When we first planned to launch Beautiful Humans, it was to be something powerful but not too time-intense. We scheduled ninety minutes with our first three features to prep, mic, interview, film b-roll, and get them out the door. This left us with very few resources to visually tell the story.

With Joe’s story more about abstract concepts, we leaned into nature to tell his story visually in addition to the limited b-roll we had collected. We filmed in at least five separate locations to capture the needed visuals here.
